Fire Making and Abatement

Earth Seed School: survival skills

1. Create a fire ring on a clear, level spot on the ground, using rocks to line the ring.

2. Use small sticks to create a platform by placing them on the ground to cover the base of your fire ring; allows for airflow.

3. Build up tinder (dry leaves, pine needles).

4. Light the fire using matches, lighter, or flint.

5. Slowly add kindling (start with small, then large pieces of firewood) to the lit tinder.

6. Add dry, larger logs in a teepee formation.
